Either it’s expensive or illegal. But If you can have one lets talk about few things. These animals are wild and potentially dangerous, so they do not adapt well to conditions in captivity. Since most states do not keep accurate records of the importation of exotic animals into their states, it is impossible to determine exactly how many exotic animals are in private custody, but estimates are quite high. There are approximately 5,000 tigers on private property alone.

Exotic animals are an inherent danger to the people who own them, to their neighbors and to entire communities. Incidents have been reported across the country of exotic animals in private hands attacking people and other animals, escaping from enclosures and roaming freely in the community. Children and adults have been bitten by tigers, bitten by monkeys and strangled by snakes.
By their very nature, exotic animals are dangerous. Although most exotic pets are territorial and require group interaction, exotic pets are often isolated, spending most of the day in a small enclosure where they cannot roam freely and exhibit natural behavior. These animals are time bombs ready to explode.

Males tend to become aggressive, and both males and females bite for defense and dominance. Many monkey bites are said to have caused serious injury to pet owners, neighbors or strangers on the street. Between 1990 and 1997, macaques bit 52 people, according to the CDC. However, the CDC reports that “owners of pet macaques are often reluctant to report bites to their pets or even their healthcare providers” for fear that their animals will be confiscated and potentially killed.

Including all kinds of snakes and lizards, they are also a danger to humans. Numerous escapes, strangulation and bites from pet reptiles have been reported across the country. Snakes are the most common “pet” reptiles, with 7.3 million pet reptiles living in about 3% of US homes, and they can cause serious injury by biting or crushing them.Â
According to the University of Florida, more than 7,000 poisonous snakebites are reported each year in the United States. It is unknown how many of these snakes are kept as pets. 15 of them died. Additionally, several incidents of snake choking have been reported. For example, on August 28, 1999 in Centralia, Illinois, a house python strangled a 3-year-old boy. The parents were charged with endangering a child and unlawfully possessing a dangerous animal.
